Driving a Heavy Vehicle in NSW
To drive a heavy vehicle in New South Wales, you typically need a Class C driver's licence, which covers vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) up to 4.5 tonnes. However, for heavier vehicles, you'll need a higher class of licence, such as a Heavy Rigid (HR) or Heavy Combination (HC) licence, depending on the GVM and configuration of the vehicle.
To obtain these licences, you must meet specific experience requirements, pass knowledge and practical tests and undergo medical examinations. Additional endorsements may be required for certain activities, such as transporting dangerous goods or passengers.
